ART 300 Creative Arts

The course introduces the student to the significance of art, graphics, movement, sound & digital applications in storytelling, communication, and building relationships. Emphasis is placed on the strengths of creativity & innovation in the utilization of visual & verbal designs.

The structure of prokaryotic and eukaryotic microorganisms, host-microbe interactions, immunity, and human infectious diseases is the focus. Laboratory sessions carry out pure culture techniques, methods of staining and the microscopic, colonial, and biochemical identification of microorganisms. Principles include the day-to-day practice of infection control and 4 hours in HIV and AIDS training on methods of transmission, prevention, treatments of the virus. Prerequisite: BIO 100

This course provides students with basic knowledge of the normal structure and function of the human body. The focus is content, terminology, interrelations among the organs, body systems and the relationship of each organ system to homeostasis. The lab component offers activities to help a student apply theory in the lab setting. Prerequisite: BIO 200

The course is a continuation of BIO 210 with the detailed study of the circulatory, immune, respiratory, digestive, urinary, and reproductive systems. Students will gain factual knowledge (terminology classifications, methods, and trends) about human anatomy and physiology. The lab component requires activities to expand the student’s application of knowledge.  Prerequisite: BIO 210

This course is an introduction to chemistry designed for allied health students. The student will become familiar with essential topics related to inorganic, organic, biochemistry, food/physiological chemistry, and environmental/consumer chemistry.

This course introduces the student to speech communication and emphasizes the practical skill of public speaking.  Lessons include techniques on stress management, civility, ethical speech-making, and the use of visual aids to enhance speaker presentations. The basic principles of speech organization and research will be studied for speech effectiveness.

The course entails a range of assignments to build academic writing skills. The student will learn fundamental concepts of academic writing that scholars use and will become familiar with the different standards of writing.
